The quiet thoughtfulness of the work of Denise LaRue Mahlke is meant to convey a sense of restfulness and peace that reflect the spiritual connection she feels for the landscape. Denise believes that being an artist is a calling that involves preserving, celebrating, and sharing in God's creation, which motivates her to paint from the heart and challenges her to continually strive for excellence in her work. Mahlke continues to gain national recognition for her pastel paintings, which have been featured in numerous publications, including Western Art & Architecture, Southwest Art, Plein Air, and Pastel Journal. She has been honored twice as winner of the First Place award in Landscape at the Art Renewal Center’s International Salon. Denise has exhibited all over the U.S. including in museums exhibitions in Colorado, Utah, and Montana. In 2013, she was awarded the Gold Medal for works on paper and Best of Show award at the Phoenix Art Museum’s West Select show.

After years in Austin, Denise and her husband Ray have settled in the Waco area. Denise is a Master Signature member of the American Women Artists, a Signature member of the Pastel Society of America, and an Out-of-State-Artist member of the California Art Club.
